Week 12

We started Brendan’s 12th week of life yesterday with more firsts.  All were happy, but one was a little hard…. he spent his first time alone in day care.  I stayed a way for a whole hour and 15 minutes.  I have every confidence and trust in the school, I have seen plenty of happy kids go through the program, and I love his teachers – but it was still hard to picture my baby anywhere but home.  And I did find myself practically running down the hall after my one hour and 15 minutes were up.  He did great, though.  He was all smiles and had a fabulous time sitting under a cool mirror and talking to that same cute baby he keeps seeing around.  Everyone commented on how talkative he is – not just talkative, but conversational – he will answer if you ask him questions (I couldn’t help bragging that he has been doing that for WEEKS).  I also had several people comment on how he couldn’t stop gazing at me.  That didn’t make my day or anything.  His first official daily report said, “Super happy, super sweet, super cute.”  That pretty much sums it up!

More firsts:

  • While we were reading books (which he is really starting to enjoy now!), he suddenly realized he could grab his own foot.  You can imagine how exciting this was.
  • Daddy gave him a bath for the first time!  I’m not sure why I was always on bath duty, but it seemed only fair that I should share the fun.  He still doesn’t LOVE baths, but he doesn’t cry either.  I would say he is non-plussed.  Because I like opportunities to use that word.
  • He is really starting to grab at his toys.  He has a couple favorites including Mister Bug, and the dangling things in his jungle.  (See movie to follow).  It is amazing to watch his new talents unfold.  They emerge so suddenly, and then he quickly refines his techniques in a matter of days.
