It’s a bird, it’s a plane…

Well, he’s done it again. Brendan came up with exactly what he wanted to be for Halloween. “Clark Kent Superman.” We talked about what we needed to pull together for the costume ready and he told me, “Mom – we just need the details.”. Here’s how it all came together.

He was so pleased with it. We all were. He told everyone who asked that he was going to be “Clark Kent Superman”. But when it came time to put on his costume, he made a last minute swap – just like he did last year. So here is how we left the house to go trick-or-treating:

We had a great time – he loved Halloween this year. He enjoyed going from house to house, and interacting with all the kids – and I loved watching him choose candy when he had absolutely no idea what he was picking. It wasn’t until we got home and he said, “lets find matches and then eat all of it!” (which is exactly what I used to do… group everything together) that I realized that he was picking any candy with blue on it. We got a lot of Nestle Crunch and Almond Joy.

He also really loved handing out candy to the 300+ kids who came to our house. Whenever someone walked up he would run over and dutifully put the candy right into their bucket for them. Like it was his job. In fact, if he was somewhere else when people walked up, he would run over yelling, “Customers!!!!!!” Uncle Frank, Auntie Jess, Baby Scarlett and Scarlett’s Grandma and Grandpa also came up for the evening – along with Gabe and Jack. We did make one other spur of the moment costume change…

Because why not.

Brendan and I played hookie from school/work today so we could enjoy the holiday. It was a perfect rainy fall Halloween day – and for the first time ever, Brendan really helped me make cookies. Rob looked up at me and said, “you’re in heaven, aren’t you.” Yep. I didn’t even mind that he took pictures of me in my pj’s with not even vaguely cute bed head.

I guess I also forgot to mention that we went to a pumpkin festival last week. His favorite parts were the huuuuuge pumpkins, and the most awesome face painter EVER:

And then there was the imagination parade at school. We were very fortunate that Grandma and Grandpa came up to join us. They were almost late getting there and Brendan was very concerned that Grandma and Grandpa might not make it – but he was so happy when they did. He even broke rank to come and give them a quick hug. Those hand you see outstretched are Grandma’s, and that smile is just for his Grandparents. (they were turtles…)

Lots of Halloweening. And lots of other fun mixed in, like the Giants winning the World Series for the second time in Brendan’s young life (clearly he is their good luck charm), and Harper’s Mommy and I taking the kids on a lunch date:

It’s just now starting to feel like Fall around here, and this has been the perfect start. My main goal: keep it as slow and relaxing as possible. That means more hookie days.
