The Week

What a week! Monday was Pajama Day at school. Brendan wore his skeleton PJ’s so he could also look spooky for Halloween. We left work very early so we could get the house ready and beat the trick or treators. Good thing we did, because there were over 350 kids that mobbed our streets and emptied our candy bowls. I don’t have any pictures from that night, because even though we had several friends over, there was too much going on for pictures. As usual, we sat outside – but this year, Rob not only brought out the table and chairs, but also the grill. Our neighbor made a yummy potato salad, we grilled sausage sandwiches, and snacked our way through the evening in between waves of children. Brendan was in great spirits – taking it all in, and talking up a storm. It was a very warm night, so he didn’t wear the lion costume for long, and instead went back to his skeleton PJ’s.

Another first this week – on Tuesday I got a call from day care that Brendan had a little fever, and within a half hour it had gone up to 102. (As a side note, this all happened during my very first meeting with my brand new boss… high marks to him for letting me know that it was absolutely expected to put my son first). I picked him up, and Rob called the doctor. She told us to watch out for signs of him not eating, and to make sure his temperature didn’t stay high for more than a day or two. We gave him some tylenol to help him feel better, but the poor peanut was just not himself. Grandma and Grandpa were coming up that night, and staying with him the next day already – but they got a little more than they bargained for (i.e. lots of snuggling, and not our usual easy going baby). He woke up lots during the next few nights, and we spent a lot of time sitting up with him so his stuffy nose wouldn’t bother him as much. We finally called the doctor again on Friday to report that he still wasn’t back to his usual self. We brought him in for a visit, and got confirmation that he has a sore throat, and irritated ears – but no infection. The little cutie has still been offering us plenty of smiles even when he was clearly feeling lousy. Last night he didn’t wake up at all, and this morning he seems to be getting back to his normal self. It’s no fun to know that your baby isn’t feeling well, and not be able to do much to help. I told him that I would happily be sick instead of him, but so far he hasn’t shared with Mommy and Daddy (KNOCK ON WOOD!)

The weather is finally cooling off and we got a little rain later in the week, so I’m looking forward to a weekend of lit candles and snuggling under blankets.
