These are a few of my favorite things

First of all, when did this song become a ‘Christmas Song’? Isn’t it from The Sound of Music?  Either way, feeling inspired from hearing it on my way to work this morning, here are a few of my (current) favorite things:

    • The way Brendan remembers to point up to his Advent Calendar each morning to open his gift. (thanks grandma, for getting out the same one you made for me when i was a little girl!)
    • Driving to work and hearing, ‘Bus!  BUUUUUUS!  BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUS!’ from the back seat.  I respond with, “Did you see a bus?” and he says, “YEEEEEEEEAH!”.  Over and over and over.
    • It’s not new, but I will never tire of the way he grabs your hand and leads you where he wants to go.
    • The way he points to Mary and Joseph in the nativity set and says, “Mommy and Daddy”.  And of course “Baby” and “Moo” are in there too.
    • Extra nice hugs.  And how every night when Mommy and Daddy squeeze him in for the family hug, he stops us and says, ‘puppy!’ to remind us that we are missing one important member.
    • The way he says, ‘Shooooes?’ when he wants to go outside.
    • Watching him find and try on Daddy’s hats.
    • Our family parade scooting down the steps on our behind.  (it’s safer that way)
    • The way he says, “hot” in a whisper when he looks at the heater or the fire in the fireplace.
    • The way he always says, ‘please’ with a smile and a soft sweet voice.
    • How he doesn’t like to brush his teeth with HIS toothbrush, but loves to brush his teeth with MY toothbrush.
    • The way he snuggles up when I sing to him each night.  And how more often than not, after the first song I get a very sleepy voice asking for, ‘more?’. (if i try and sing a different song, he stops me and says, ‘nooo – MORE!’. The kid has a favorite.)
    • Watching him ‘show off’ when Grandma and Grandpa came to babysit.  He wanted to show them everything – including things he has never before been interested in.  My favorite was when he brought out the spare roll of toilet paper from the bathroom. (Grandpa was properly impressed)
    • Kisses through the shower door.
