Five words are worth a thousand pictures

This is a rare pictureless update, but a moment that my heart will never forget.
Tonight as we were sitting together, Brendan and I were talking about things we liked. I looked at him and said, “I like YOU!”. His little eyes looked directly at me and he said, “I like YOU!” and then he added, “You’re pretty.”
Even though he said it very clearly, I had to ask him to repeat it because the only thing he usually refers to as pretty is water sparkling in the sun – with the occasional reference to pretty flowers. He said it again, “You’re pretty.”

If I’m pretty in my son’s eyes, and he likes me, what more do I need from life?

I wish I had taken a selfie of my sweatshirt and shorts outfit, with my barely brushed hair to remind me that in the eyes of my son, beauty is clearly way more than my outward appearance.

When I went to pick him up yesterday, he was walking back in from being outside with his class. They all hold onto a rope and walk together, and there was my son – at the front of the line – marching his way in and waving his little arm around like he was directing a band. When he saw me, his eyes lit up – “That’s my Mommy!!!” he exclaimed. As he ran over, he told a couple other kids along the way, “That’s my Mommy!”. When he finally got to me, I hugged him tight and told him that nothing in life made me more proud than being his Mommy.

I love him, I love him, I love him! He makes my heart explode.
