The Hampton Inn

Some friends of ours got married, and we found ourselves with a nice excuse to stay at a Hampton Inn that is only about an hour away from our house, in the wine country. We’d been wanting to do this for a long time, so this was just the excuse we were looking for. It’s hard to explain how our time in Iowa feels in our hearts – sacred may be the best word for it – and we knew that a Hampton Inn, even if not in Iowa, would help us remember all of those Iowa moments a little more clearly.

We got there just as the wine hour was starting. This was a little different from our experience in Iowa – but apparently local wineries come on Friday nights and do tastings. Who knew? So we fueled up with some of their warm cookies, and then all three of us helped unload the car.

We bounced on the bed and played with the remote for a bit, and then headed out for some wine and exploring.

Mommy – stop kissing me in public!

We just hung out and enjoyed having nothing else to do, other than be together.

That night we went out to eat and got to watch the Giants continue their streak in between games of peek-a-boo:

We were ridiculously excited for breakfast, and it did not disappoint. Then we headed out for more adventure, and ended up at the Coppola Winery – which is pretty much the most amazing place ever. Not only is the wine and food amazing, but the grounds (and the gift shop) are amazing – and then even have a pool, and a special teepee for kids. One of the nice people working there told us that Francis loves children, and wants them around all the time. This same nice woman told us that we get a discount on everything because we work for George Lucas and they are close friends. Hooray! Mommy went back for a few more goodies.

Somebody got a little squirmy eating by the pool because there were fun water spouts just begging to be played with. I did not capture any of the pool beauty or fun because it took all our concentration to keep someone from jumping in the pool. And that someone was not Rob.

Then it was wedding time! Beautiful event, gorgeous location at a winery waaaaaaay up a long windy road. On the way home we even saw an owl. We got to be seated with Ariel and Joey – our two friends who had to wait a long time before their baby found them, but now they are a very happy and adorable family. This picture cracks me up:

They even grabbed our camera and took a few pictures of all three of us together. You’re welcome, Mom.

A great weekend. It was vacation, it was happy memories, it was full love and laughter and long runways. What more could we ask for?
