Collection

There was a time where I blogged about my boy almost every day. Now it’s more like once a week. It’s not that I’m any less in love or awe of the little man, but perhaps the ultimate proof that toddlers keep you busier than newborns. In an effort not to forget any of my absolute favorite things in between times where I can carve out a half hour to sit at the computer, I write little notes to myself. Then when I sit down, I have a collection of memories to relive over again. Here is my collection of favorite things from this week:

Monday was a holiday, so I made french toast for my family. It was the first time Brendan had french toast at home, and he ate an adult sized helping. As we were getting ready for bed, we finished our book and then we started talking about the day as we always do. I mentioned several things that I knew he enjoyed and got no response, then I casually mentioned the french toast and he began excitedly nodding. Needless to say we had french toast again this week. It’s nice to have your cooking appreciated.

Brendan is talking like a champ. I don’t correct his grammar or pronunciation because for one thing, it’s adorable exactly as it is. But also, to me the most important thing I can do right now is encourage him to communicate by showing him I understand. If I know what he is saying, that’s a job well done in my book. One of the things I understand but he consistently has said, is ‘My’ instead of ‘I’, as in, ‘My go up steps’, or ‘My go outside’. Without correcting, we were talking about the difference between ‘my’ and ‘i’ and suddenly Brendan looked me right in the eye and said, “My you.” Just right. He’s got it now.

They brought this big foam pit into the classroom at daycare. It’s sort of like a wrestling octagon and the kids treat it like a giant mosh pit. They all love it, but nobody more than my son. For the first time, he didn’t want to come home from school because he didn’t want to leave the mosh pit. The first day this happened, I was picking him up and I sat down to watch and enjoy for a while. By the time I managed to scoop him up and carry him out (crying all the way…), he was sweatier than I’ve ever seen a toddler. The next day Daddy was picking him up. He sat down to watch for a while too, and put Brendan’s lunch bag right by the big pile of tiny toddler shoes. As they were leaving, Daddy grabbed Brendan’s shoes to put on in the lobby so he wouldn’t be distracted by the other kids still lucky enough to be in the pit. As they neared the door, Brendan yelled, “My Luuuuuuuunch!!!!”. It’s nice to have someone to remind you.

Brendan is also good at reminding the puppy that she isn’t supposed to bark too much. Sometimes he will tell her to use her “kiet voice” and this week he wandered into the room where Chelsea was barking, put his little hand around her head, looked into her eyes and said, “Shhh! It’s okay – there no people outside puppy!”.

On the way to school this week, Brendan wanted to grab his toy camera. He doesn’t usually pick out toys to bring with him, so I was amused. When we got to the construction area of our drive, he suddenly said, “Camma! Pictures!!!”. We gave him his camera and he started snapping away. The same thing happened the next day. That’s my boy.

He always takes pictures the same way – with his face smashed up against the lens. I took some pictures with my camera too, just in case we needed another angle.

We were watching one of our favorite shows one evening, ‘Yo Gabba Gabba’ and Brendan had to get up and “gump” with the guys. Gumping is the new jumping in case you didn’t know. Later in the week, he also needed to get up to dance with the guys. Daddy and I joined in too. If you have wanted to know how to do the jumping jellyfish, just ask one of the Gianino’s.In very viagra for free rare cases do the user loses his capacity to hear. He is getting to be a very good singer as well – he helps out on the ABC’s, and on the way home he always wants to do many verses of Old MacDonald – or ‘EIEIO’ as he calls it. We let him say which animal is on the farm – it’s almost always a cow, but every once in a while we get a duck or a pig. I guess Old MacDonald has a dairy farm. We were in a deli this weekend (the one where Rob and I met) and Brendan saw a star on a bottle of wine and started singing “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”. It was close enough that I knew immediately what he was singing. He is also getting good at “Head and Shoulders Knees and Toes”. Sometimes he does NOT want to sing though, or doesn’t want Mommy and Daddy to sing – and he is not shy about telling us so.

Daddy often calls up the stairs to me, “Looooooori….?” and Brendan started repeating him, “Looooooooolie….?” But later, when Daddy tried to get him to call me “Lolie” he laughed and said, “No Daddy – it’s MOMMY!”. He also tells us that he is a “Big Boy” and sometimes that “Brendan funny”. He woke up when we were trying to transfer a sleeping Brendan in from car to bed, and immediately looked at Rob and said, “Daddy what that guy doing?”. He doesn’t want to miss anything. And he rarely does.

We got to have dinner with The Uncles TWICE this week, which was a real treat. After one of the dinners, Brendan told each of them to sit down on the curb with him, and Mommy snapped a few pictures. I really have to get out my good camera, they have all been iphone pictures recently. Mommy has been lazy.

It has been a scorcher here this weekend. Naptime is almost over, and I have a feeling we’re going to go back and and do the same thing we did yesterday:

Happy Summer!
