Told ya.

Last week I mentioned that for earth day the Teddy Bear class planted a garden. This week when I was putting Brendan to bed one night, he said, “I never get picked for gardener of the day.” Having never heard of Gardener of the Day, I asked what it was and how one got picked. I was told that you had to be a good listener and make good choices during circle time. Just that day Brendan had a particularly hard time doing both of those things, so it was a good opportunity to talk together about how to practice those very important skills. He brought it up again on the ride to school the next morning, and once again we talked about that he could choose to really work on those things, and that I was sure one day he would get picked to the be gardener of the day. When we got to school I confirmed the gardener of the day story, and let them know that B wanted to work extra hard to be a good listener and make good choices today. I didn’t lobby for my son to get picked, I just wanted them to be aware that this was something he was really working on. Later in the day, I received this message:

I went down to visit and said, “Brendan – you did it! You must have been a really good listener and made really good choices because you got picked as the gardener of the day!” He looked up at me, smiled and said, “Told ya.”

This week was also extremely warm in the bay area, and the kids had all kinds of fun in sprinklers and various kinds of water play. They all have bathing suits at school, but after a morning mud puddle extravaganza, the bathing suits weren’t fit to be worn again, so I went to visit and found this:

Converse hightops and motocycle boxer briefs. Love it. He has also invented a new word: “willn’t”. At first we didn’t understand what word he was trying to say, and then we realized that it was always used appropriately as, “will not”. Why shouldn’t it be a contraction? I willn’t be surprised if this word becomes the new trend sweeping the nation.

We lucked out and had Grandma and Grandpa come to visit this weekend. We took them up to Petaluma on Saturday morning to one of our favorite breakfast places and then to get the boys haircuts after. They were amazed at what a big boy he was as he sat in the chair all by his big self getting his cool haircut:

And then we all cracked up as he tried out a new move. We did not teach him this and have no idea where he picked it up:
