The fun keeps going

Fourth of July continued with a bang. Here is what happened when we pulled on those rockets:

We had fun doing a BBQ with Grandma and Grandpa – Daddy made some awesome burgers, and Brendan got to have his first s’more. He loved it, but perhaps that goes without saying when it comes to s’mores. The next day we decided to check out our county fair. Grandma and Grandpa love going to fairs – and I remember going every year with them when I was a little girl. We headed straight for the animals, and Brendan got to go into his very first petting zoo. He was very gentle with the animals, and loved being in there with them. We got some ice cream (of course) and Brendan once again ate his weight in ice cream – including asking Grandpa for some of his vanilla malt. Grandpa quickly realized he better finish it or someone else would finish it for him. We had a sad moment when Brendan was not picked as a “team lead” for the pig races, but he quickly got over it and we went over to check out the merry-go-round. Mommy got to ride with him, and we waved at everyone as we went around. Brendan has been seeing the ferris wheel from the car each day and was really excited to go on. Daddy and I feared he might not meet the height requirement, and our second sad moment came when we measured and he wasn’t quite there. But it was nothing that another ride on the merry-go-round wouldn’t fix.

Today we kept up the excitement with a trip to the zoo. We looked at all the animals, but it was pretty warm outside, and most of them were napping. I can’t say that I blame them. Unfortunately there was no hippopotamus, but the giraffes and elephants are always a hit.

Then we let Brendan take his first ride on a sky tram. The sign warned us that it was a 20 minute ride, and we were hoping that Brendan would enjoy it and not be scared of heights… nothing to worry about.

After the sky tram, Brendan told Daddy and I that we did a good job, and he was proud of us and that he was going to let us pick ONE chomping guy (you know, the animals on the stick with the lever at the bottom that makes their mouths move…) from the gift shop. Then very sincerely, he paused and said, “Mom and Dad… I love you.” Stopped us in our tracks. We bent down and all of us had the same idea at the same time, but Brendan was the one to say it – “FAMILY HUG!!!”. What a moment. That’s what I love most about places like zoos – they have a way of allowing space to create moments.

Speaking of moments, we also passed a big field just begging someone to run on it, and Brendan happily obliged. He did have to take one break though…

On the air tram, Brendan noticed there was a ride section, and there was a car ride that looked pretty great to his little eyes. There was also a kid sized roller coaster that looked like a tiger. I asked him if he wanted to ride, but he wasn’t so sure about that one. We had him look at all the choices, but his heart was set on the cars. He had to go on all by himself, and he did great. Excellent driver.

(unless you’re Grandma, you really only need about 5 seconds of this next video…)

Almost as soon as he got off the ride, he told us he wanted to ride the roller coaster. We made him walk over and watch the whole thing to make sure he was ready, and he decided he was. Daddy got the tickets, and we anxiously waited…

Then it was time:

That’s my boy. Miss Gracie called it when B was just a baby – he’s an adrenaline junky. It’s fun to think Daddy and I are going to have another roller coaster buddy!

Oh, and there was also a sword fight:

I wish the weekend never had to end.
