Thanksgiving

With our tree already waiting for us, we’ve enjoyed sort of a lazy couple of days following Thanksgiving. As I sat down with my second third cup of coffee to look through pictures, it was nice to re-live the holiday. (turns out the third cup of coffee made for a really long post… good or bad, you’ll feel like you were there. trust me.)

We started toward Grandma and Grandpa’s house on Wednesday afternoon, and lucked out with no extra traffic. Hooray! That meant some extra daylight hours for playing around:

We did some prep work after the peanut went to bed, but there was also plenty to do the next morning. Brendan especially liked watching the cranberries pop:

Then we took the pooch to play at the elementary school I attended a million years ago:

After that, it was back to prep. Brendan sat in the kitchen to help Grandma, and that is when we learned that he loves pumpkin bread even more than grapes and blueberries.

Soon it was time for the Leong Family to arrive, and our official Thanksgiving Dinner to begin. Brendan was just waking up from his nap and he was so shy when he realized the house was full of more people. Mommy was happy for the extra snuggles, but it wasn’t long before he was taking full advantage of all the extra people to play with.

And then dinner was served. It’s a lot of work for one meal, but boy is it yummy. We were amazing the crowd with Brendan’s talents, and then he turned around and amazed us. We were asking, ‘where’s Grandpa?’ and ‘where’s Daddy?’ – then we thought we’d get clever and say, ‘Where’s Nelly?’. He has seen the Leongs a few times, but it’s probably been 6 months since the last time we were together. He pointed right to Nelly. Then we proceeded to ask where each of the other family members were, and he got every one of them correct. It wasn’t accidental – he made direct eye contact as he pointed right to each person. I’m not entirely sure how he did that. Such a genius.

He wasn’t sure about some of the Thanksgiving dishes, but he did a good job trying most things.

After dinner, Brendan got comfy. Real comfy.

He decided he was no longer afraid of the jack-in-the-box:

(Mommy still finds it a little creepy.)

Then it was time for dessert. Grandma made three kinds of pie, and an extra baby sized pie for her favorite Grandson.

And then we had a piano recital before bed:

The next morning, Brendan got to play basketball with the “little” boys I used to babysit:

His very first basket!

Then it was time for a quick height mark on the door:

We had just marked him a month ago (and he had grown an INCH since that mark), but we had to do it a year from the very first time we put his mark on the door. Look how tiny he was last year!

As we packed up the car, Grandma took him outside for a few more bubbles, and a few more rocks thrown into the creek.

It was another great Thanksgiving, and we are truly blessed to have so much to be thankful for. You are truly blessed that you finally made it to the end of this post. Sorry for the extra coffee, and Happy Thanksgiving.
