Big Boy

My big boy is working on getting that second front tooth out, so he was a little more, ‘sensitive’ than usual, but we still had lots of fun this weekend. He loves to practice his walking – he grabs my two fingers like he’s hopping into his car to run out and pick something up at the store. I’m just his vehicle. Crawling is only second choice now. He can stand on his own for brief instants when he is holding onto something important in each hand and forgets that he needs to hold on.

He is practicing blowing kisses which is extra cute when sometimes his hand accidentally goes over his eye instead of his mouth – you still get the kissing sound, though. The same thing happens with the phone – he knows how to answer it, but sometimes he misses his ear and holds the phone up to the back of his head. He loves playing ball – big balls and little balls have different games – we like to throw the little ones over the stairs and watch them bounce, and then Mommy picks them up and does a funny touchdown dance. The bigger balls get rolled around under his chest as he crawls – or get thrown to Mommy or Daddy. He picks the ball up over his head like a soccer player throwing the ball back onto the field.

He manages to find new things to get into all the time, even if it means getting way up on his tiptoes to reach. One of his favorite things is to go through my purse. He roots around in there and usually selects the iPhone to bring with him. I thought I’d have at least another year before he wanted to use my phone. He’s got a brown bear that the neighbors gave him and he loves this bear. When he sees it sitting there, he is overcome with a need to squeeze it as tight as he can. Of course Brown Bear has not replaced Cookie Monster, or George the Monkey – you know what they say, make new friends, but keep the old. Tonight he pulled a box of finger puppets of the shelf. After we played with them, he worked and worked to get everything put back just the way it goes. He knows where things go, and he likes to put things where they belong. He was playing with my lens cap and stunned me when he brought it over and tried to put it back on the camera in exactly the right place. I am shocked at how observant he is – but Rob reminds me that Brendan does see the camera come out every once in a while.
